Atlas Story
His story is the heart of our mission.
At the time, our recent rescues were being named after constellations, and in keeping with that theme, we named him Atlas— a name that came to embody immense strength, resilience, and inner fortitude, all reflected in his unmistakable will to live.
We don’t know if Atlas was hit by a car or if these gruesome injuries were intentionally inflicted. We suspect the latter. What we do know is that he is a senior cat, estimated to be over 10 years old, and he had clearly suffered tremendous trauma.
His injuries were devastating. His upper jaw was severely fractured, the break running from his canine tooth through to his soft palate. His lower jaw was also fractured. His nose was broken, forcing him to breathe through his mouth. His left eye socket was ruptured and required enucleation, and he initially appeared to be blind in his right eye as well.
Atlas’s healing journey was long and complex. He later had all remaining teeth extracted so his jaw could better align. He underwent additional surgery on his right eye, which ultimately saved his vision and made the eye functional. And if that weren’t enough, Atlas tested positive for FeLV (feline leukemia virus).

He underwent additional surgery on his right eye, which ultimately saved his vision and made the eye functional. And as Atlas continued fighting his way back from unimaginable trauma, we learned he was also FeLV positive (feline leukemia virus)—yet another obstacle this resilient boy refused to let define him.
Prayers poured in—and they were answered!
ATLAS FLOURISHED!
